Aegina Town is the capital and main port of the island.
It is a picturesque town, with beautiful neoclassical buildings of different bright colours, narrow streets, cafes and restaurants, nice squares and a small marina filled with fishing boats. On the waterfront of the long harbour, cafes, taverns and little shops are lined, creating a modern yet lovely islanding environment. North of the town’s port stands the unique column remains of Kolona, the ancient temple dedicated to Apollo.
In the town is also the neoclassical house where Nikos Kazantzakis used to live with his wife for a decade. The house is located in the suburb of Livadi and has a plaque on it
